If you have problems using WebCALIS from your home or workplace, go
through these steps:
1. Be sure you have an up-to-date browser such as Internet Explorer 8. You can verify your version by clicking the “Help” pull down menu or button (the question mark button by the “Tools” pull down menu) and clicking “About Internet Explorer”. These directions are for that browser, but you should be able to apply them to other browsers, as well.
2. Be sure you’ve clicked on the Java Plug-in link on the WebCALIS start page and installed the plug-in. If in doubt, do it again. If you’re using Windows 7/IE 8, you might be directed to a Java download page. Click on the “Free Java Download” buttons to install Java.
3. Click on Tools, Internet Options, and do the following.
a. Under Security, set security level to Default (medium high) instead of high.
b. Under Privacy, be sure that “Block Pop-ups” is NOT checked.
c. Under Advanced, look for Java (Sun), and click to enable the JRE Plug-in. (Except for Windows 7/IE 8)
4. Go to the Control Panel for your computer and look for the Java coffeecup icon.
a. Double-click the icon to open Java Control Panel.
b. In Java Control Panel, click the Advanced tab.
c. Click on small box with plus sign next to Default Java for Browsers.
d. Make sure the boxes next to browsers you use have been checked.
e. If it is not checked, click in the box and a check will appear to show that you have enabled Java for your browser.
f. Click Apply.
5. Exit and Restart your computer.
6. Go to http://nathan.nku.edu again and hopefully everything will work. If the “Start” button doesn’t appear, try the “Refresh” button.
